Who Am I

– written 10 Oct 2000 by Renae’ Harrison

I don’t know many things, but I know what I mean,

When the question is asked – who am I?

personally or socially,

To which do I intervene?

I’m a cross between nice and mean

sanctioned amongst good and clean,

I’m a title to some, inferior to none,

Spontaneously ready,

A leader to many.

I don’t know many things, but I am what I’ll be.

My skin is light, my race undefined,

I’m poised and outspoken,

My personality intertwined.

My incentive is to move you, motivate you, lead you,

guide you, teach you,

Endure all interests that make you.

I don’t know many things, but I am not what I seem.

I’m a working creation of the God almighty,

Conspicuous in actions towards those who despise me,

I’m amongst those who lead, not affiliated with greed.

I apprehend jealousy, but I don’t condone your presence if you must hate me.

Nevertheless, I still stand strong

I’m independent, and a soldier daily,

That’s me.

I’m all real, not just what YOU see.

I don’t know many things, but I know what I mean.

I do not down others, nor does it come as a surprise,

that I’m witty, intelligent, and free of lies.

I do not wish to be depicted by the color of my skin,

rather the notion of my character.

My persona is filled with joy, passion, willingness, and heart,

often associates with laughter.

I’m unlike any other, not what you want or perceive;

I’m unique, genuine, I’m what I believe!

I don’t know many things, but I know what I mean.

I do what I do, say what I say,

play when I play, I believe what I believe,

I go where I go, and I choose it so,

know what I know,

and am who I will be – that’s ME!
